Founder - Griot Gabriel 

 

Griot Gabriel is a spoken word poet from Manchester. His writing  is strongly influenced by Hip Hop and Rap music, taking inspiration from wordsmiths such as Nas, Tupac, Ghetts, Wretch 32. His upbringing is rooted in Black urban culture, having been born in Pekcham, London, lived in Longsight, Manchester since his early teens. His Nigerian heritage and 15 years as a professional youth worker also find place in his wiriting.

His poetry explores masculinity, political discourse, racial identity, faith and spirituality, experiences of inner-city young people and their challenges in context to historical and relevant current social issues.  

Griot Gabriel has been commissioned to work with CHANEL, with his Spoken Word video “Where I’m From’ exhibited at the Metiers D’Art Show, 2023. He has written and performed for Warner Bro’s, on  the ‘Black Britain Unspoken’ documentary ‘The Nod’ 2022. He has graced the 2023 Glastonbury festival stage with poetry and Spoken word, Perfomed at Manchester International Festival 2023, is alumni to the Factory International fellowship, delivered poetry workshops with Manchester United, The Black Curriculum, Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as performed poetry at the opening UK book launch of Jason Reynolds (creator of Spiderman, Miles Morales).
